FAQs

Question: I am gluten intolerant. Can I eat Oatly products?
Answer: Oatly is a very low gluten product. As we make special stipulations for the purity of our raw oats, we can guarantee that Oatly products contain a maximum of 100 parts per million gluten from wheat, rye and barley.  Anyone with coeliac disease or gluten intolerance who believes that they may be safe with this type of very low gluten product should seek medical advice.  In accordance with the new EU rules on foods that are suitable for people with gluten intolerance, a product can only be labelled gluten free when it does not contain gluten exceeding 20 parts per million.

Question: Are Oatly products free from milk, nuts and soy?
Answer: Yes. All Oatly products are guaranteed free from milk, nuts or soy. No ingredients originating from milk, nuts or soy are used in our products. Nor do we use ingredients related to soy such as locust bean gum. We ensure that there is no contamination from milk, nuts and soy in our production process.

Question:
Can the Oatly oat beverage be boiled?

Answer: Yes, it is perfect for boiling.

Question: Why should I shake the Oatly cartons?

Answer: Our beverages must be shaken well before it is poured because separation occurs in the carton. We decided not to use any stabilisers in our beverages so a certain amount of natural sedimentation occurs in the product which is easily reincorporated after a quick shake.

Question: Is Oatly oat beverage suitable for children under one?
Answer: Like other foods, Oatly can be introduced gradually from around the age of six months but as with infant formulas, it is not intended to constitute a large part of an infant's diet (certain mineral and vitamin supplements would be required, as in infant formulas)

We recommend that you consult your dietician to establish whether individual products are suitable or not.

Question: Can pregnant women and nursing mothers drink Oatly?
Answer:
Oatly is suitable for both pregnant women and nursing mothers.  Enriched Unsweetened, Vanilla Enriched and Chocolate Enriched are fortified with folic acid.

Question:
I’m worried about osteoporosis and my calcium intake.  Should I still drink Oatly?
Answer:  Oatly Enriched Unsweetened, Oatly Vanilla Enriched and Oatly Chocolate Enriched contain 120 mg calcium per 100 ml product (15% of RDA) which is the same amount as ordinary milk.

Question: What nutritional benefit will I gain by swapping other milks for Oatly?
Answer:  Oatly has a well balanced composition of protein, fats and carbohydrates and are naturally low in saturated fat. The Enriched Unsweetened variety does not contain any added sugar. Oats contain slow energy release carbohydrates and are high in soluble fibre. The soluble fibre (beta-glucans) in oats provide a slow assimilation of carbohydrates leading to a prolonged sense of feeling full which makes it easier to stop reaching for snacks between meals.

Oatly contains natural fibres, both soluble and insoluble.  Many of the health benefits of oats come from the fibre component,  especially a type of soluble fibre called beta-glucan.  So when choosing an oat beverage it’s important to choose a brand like Oatly that contains natural soluble fibres (beta-glucan).

Question:
As there already are so many good nutrients in oats, why does Oatly need to add vitamins to Oatly Enriched Unsweetend, Oatly Enriched Vanilla and Oatly Enriched Chocolate?
Answer: Since Oatly has a naturally good balanced composition of protein, fats and carbohydrates it makes sense to add what nature has left out to give a product with added nutritional benefits.

Question:  Tell me about the benefits of the protein in Oatly oat beverages.
Answer:  Oats contain more protein than other cereals.  High in lysine which is often low in other cereal grains, oats bring a real balance to your protein needs. They are a useful source of the amino acid tryptophan which is used to make the ‘feel-good’ hormone serotonin in the brain. Check the label of the oat drink or product you buy for the benchmark of 1g of protein per 100ml so that you know that you’re getting all the natural health benefits of pure oats.
